Hurrah!

I didn’t get to play cricket yesterday (doctor’s orders) but I still went along at about 4pm so that I could support the team. I’ve not actually enjoyed playing and being part of the team this much since I was about 14-15. The team spirit and attitude shown by people all season has been brilliant and I definitely feel proud to be a part of it.

The most suprising thing is that over half of the team is made up of 16-18 year olds. Our squad has the captain Pete (mid 50s), Me (nearly 23), Matt & Mike (21 twins), Binky (20), Will (19) and the rest are 18 or younger. We do occasionally have some of the older players in the first team playing for us, and this last weekend we had Brad (26) in the team. On the whole though, the average age in most of our games is 20-21, an excellent step for the future.

It was a bit disappointing that there weren’t more people around to celebrate the fact that we were promoted, but we didn’t find out until 10pm and there were only a few people left at the club playing poker at that time. I’m sure there will be bigger celebrations next weekend as it’s the day of the last league games and then a Curry Night in the evening.

I won’t be playing again next week as I’m off to my friend Steve’s wedding. It should be good fun, although I’m unlikely to know too many people there which is a little scary. I don’t really want to go alone and end up having to try and remember a whole bunch of new names! Plus, I want to get back to the Cricket club at around 5ish…so I might not go to the reception. Whatever happens, it will be great to see him take another step forward in his life and I’m sure that his marriage and relationship will last for a very long time
